Creating Fun Photo Projects With Your Children
If you're looking for a fun way to spend time with your family and capture some memories, then you should consider having fun with photography. It's always fun to take something you enjoy and share it with the people you care about most, so here are a few fun photo projects that your family will love.
Picture Taking Adventure
While not the most complicated of activities, there is still great joy to be had in rounding up the family, heading to a scenic location like the beach or a local trail, and having everyone take pictures of the things they find the most interesting. The cost on this is low since it only runs you a bit of gas and a few disposable cameras, but your family will absolutely love sharing their images and looking at all the different things they saw while exploring the same location.
Creating a Photo Scrapbook
What better way to share the images that resulted from a photo outing than by creating a themed scrapbook together? You can make photo scrapbooks or photo albums on just about anything such as a holiday, vacation, special event or even a period of time like summer vacation. Let the kids design picture frames for each page with construction paper and markers, then everyone can decide on which images go where. In the end, you'll be glad you took the time to create a wonderful book of memories that your whole family can enjoy.
A Different Type of Scavenger Hunt
Scavenger hunts can be an enormous amount of fun if you live in a safe area or can create a place that your kids can explore on their own. Give each family member a list of objects to find and photograph. You can make this activity safer by imposing a time limit - this will make it seem like a race but will also help to keep your kids on task and prevent wandering. Once everyone has finished, go by your local photo shop and see who was able to get the most photos of items on their list!
Photo Story
A photo story is similar to a scrapbook, but is a little bit more involved. Essentially, you take a few photographs from a special time or an event, put them in chronological order, then work with your family to write captions similar to a children's book that tell the story of the event. New pets, family vacations, or new babies are all excellent candidates for photo stories, and if you frame each picture with construction paper and use that for the captions you can hang them in your house for everyone to see.
Documentary
It's worth noting that this project can be a bit time consuming, but it is definitely a unique and cool thing to do with your family. Decide on one person to be the "subject," then have the other members of the family follow them for a day and take pictures of what they do. You can include descriptions, interviews, and all sorts of other things you might see in a documentary about a person, except in this case everyone in your family is learning about each other instead of a Movie Star or musician. At the end of the project, you can all work together to create a fake biography or magazine article featuring the stories, interviews, and photographs or display them in a nice shadow box picture frame.
There is really no limit to the fun and creativity you can have when you get your family involved in taking pictures. Try any of these ideas out and see what a great time there is to be had just in getting to know the people that you care about most. With these fun types of activities, you'll be amazed how your loved ones still have lots of surprises to offer!
